“When I retired from my career as a midwife, I saw volunteering at the Rotary Community Breastmilk Bank as a great way to stay in touch with new mothers and babies, plus I have always seen the big benefits of all babies being exclusively breast milk fed. I have been volunteering with them since 2019.

I have the role of keeping the policies and procedures up to date. I also recruit our new milk donors, pasteurise milk regularly and enjoy organising education updates and social gatherings for our volunteers.

The best part of volunteering here is seeing new mothers being able to achieve establishing their own milk supply and keep their babies exclusively breast milk fed with the help of the service of the milk bank.

Volunteering makes me feel happy and fulfilled. It’s gives me a sense of purpose and worth. To anyone else considering volunteering, I would say fill your own cup by giving to others. It’s rewarding and great social contact. It’s great for meeting new people, and connects you with your community.

I enjoy volunteering because it’s good for the soul. I get more than I give.”
